Bruce Liebe is retired from law enforcement with 30 years of service. He began his career with the LaSalle (IL) Police Department and then joined the Illinois State Police, where he served for 25 years. In his time with the ISP, Bruce served in patrol, investigations, tactical, and administration. He served with ISP SWAT for 13 years and was statewide coordinator of the program for 7 of those years. Bruce was assigned to the entry element of the team, and in a training capacity taught close-quarter battle, operations planning and management, and served as assistant range officer. During his time with SWAT, he had the opportunity to train with a variety of special operations units, including both police and Tier-one military units.
He is certified as an Illinois Active Threat Master Instructor. Under this certification, Bruce instructs in the areas of use of force, high-risk patrol tactics, high-risk vehicle stops, active threat/rapid deployment, solo officer response, urban tactics/MACTAC, and rescue task force. He is certified by the ITOA and CSAT as a live fire shoot house instructor. Bruce also holds certifications by the Force Science Institute as a Force Science Analyst and as an instructor for Fundamentals of Realistic De-Escalation.
Bruce has completed several training courses, including the Range Master certifications, including Basic Firearms Instructor Development, Advanced Firearms Instructor, and Protective Pistolcraft instructor Course; NRA Basic Pistol, Range Safety Officer, and Chief Range Safety Officer. He holds a number of USCCA certifications, including Concealed Carry and Home Defense, Defensive Shooting Fundamentals Levels 1 & 2, Countering the Mass Shooter Threat, and Women's Handgun and Self-Defense. He is a member of the International Association of Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors.
He is a member of the National Tactical Officers Association and the Illinois Tactical Officers Association. Bruce is a featured author for the National Tactical Officers journal, The Tactical Edge, where he has contributed 30 articles to date centering on tactical training, tactical program administration, and operations planning and management. He consults internationally on these topics.
